Job summary

Russel Metals is seeking a 2nd Shift Supervisor to oversee all second-shift operations at the steel distribution and service center. You will lead production, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and material handling teams to meet safety, quality, and schedule targets.

You will enforce OSHA-compliant policies, coordinate workflow, coach hourly staff, and drive continuous improvement in productivity and on-time shipments. This role emphasizes safety, leadership, and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• 3-5 years of experience in a steel service center, manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment.
• 2+ years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily production, warehousing, shipping, receiving, and processing activities during the second shift.
• Coordinate workflow to ensure customer orders are processed accurately and shipped on time.
• Monitor productivity, equipment utilization, and labor efficiency.
• Prioritize workloads and adjust staffing as necessary to meet business demands.
• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to hourly employees.
• Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Lead daily shift meetings and communicate production goals and expectations.

Position Overview:

The 2nd Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all second-shift operations within the steel distribution and service center, ensuring a safe, productive, and efficient work environment. This role provides leadership and direction to production, warehouse, shipping, receiving, and material handling employees while maintaining quality standards, meeting customer requirements, and achieving operational goals.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote and enforce all company safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct routine safety observations, inspections, and shift meetings.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company policies.

Operations Management

• Supervise daily production, warehousing, shipping, receiving, and processing activities during the second shift.
• Coordinate workflow to ensure customer orders are processed accurately and shipped on time.
