RWJBarnabas Health in Livingston, NJ seeks a Supervisor for the laboratory to supervise staff, coordinate testing and ensure quality control. This full-time, day-shift role involves managing scheduling, budgeting, safety, and regulatory compliance while supporting physicians with timely results.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, 5+ years in a clinical lab, ASCP/AMT preferred, and strong communication and MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science or related field required.
• Minimum five years of experience in a similar laboratory environment.
• ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Supervise laboratory sections including staff scheduling, training, evaluation, and discipline.
• Ensure quality control and quality assurance processes, including documentation, corrective actions, and compliance with accreditation standards.
• Maintain safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance (e.g., JCAHO, AABB, CAP, OSHA).
• Manage physical and financial resources, monitor expenses, and assist in budgeting and capital planning.
• Maintain inventory, equipment, and technical documentation; implement new testing procedures and recommend improvements.
• Communicate and consult with Section Chief, pathologist, and other stakeholders to set priorities and resolve technical issues.
• Participate in employee development and performance management, fostering a positive workplace culture.

Job Summary

Supervises, coordinates and participates in the activities of employees performing routine, standardized biological and/or biochemical tests, and more complex procedures on blood that assist physicians in the diagnosis and clinical management of patients.

Assumes responsibility for recognizing results or problems that require referral to Medical Director or Laboratory Director/Manager, and performs additional tasks as requested by the Chair of Pathology or designee.
