Job Overview
Supervises one or more sections of the clinical laboratory; prepares weekend and holiday schedules and other necessary scheduling of personnel as needed; monitors quality control and preventive maintenance records in the various sections of the laboratory; updates and maintains Procedure Manuals; assists in budget preparation and capital equipment evaluation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, clinical laboratory science or similar degree in chemistry or biology with required semester hours and one year of training in a clinical laboratory as per CLIA and NJ DOH regulations.
- 2 Year's Supervisory experience.
- American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
Scheduling Requirements
- Full Time.
- Evening.
- Must be able to cover every other weekend and Holidays as needed.
Essential Functions
- Oversees and coordinates technical functions and activities in the Core Laboratory including maintenance, QC review, specimen and instrument troubleshooting.
- Assists in preparing biweekly and monthly schedules as needed and assures adequate coverage is maintained.
- Prepares quality control and quality assurance data.
- Checks critical reports and assures compliance with critical results policy.
- Checks inventories for the various chemicals and controls and informs the Quest personnel to order what is needed.
- Monitors the handling and reporting of CAP proficiency testing and ensures review and corrective action when required.
- Assists in maintaining an updated Procedure Manual by reviewing it biannually and having any revision signed and dated by the pathologist and the administrative director.
- Assures that all equipment is maintained as required and all preventive maintenance records are easily accessible.
- Assists in budget preparation and capital equipment evaluation.
- Maintains good relations within or outside the laboratory, that is, medical staff, nursing staff, and other ancillary services.
- Consults with Pathologist when necessary.
- Performs other related duties when required.
- Acquires knowledge of all instrumentation operation, maintenance instruction and quality control performance and acceptable ranges.
- Educates and orients staff and new employees to instrumentation and workflow.
