Under the direction of Director of SUD Counseling or a supervisory official, plans, develops, and supervises counseling components necessary for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients suffering from drug addiction and co-occurring substance use disorders at the Passaic County Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (BHWC); performs other related duties as required. Duties include:

  • Plans, develops, and supervises a counseling program within the BHWC treatment facility; directly responsible for supervision of subordinate counseling staff.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors supervision and professional development plans to ensure compliance with requirements established by the New Jersey State Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners for Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) counselors, Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC) interns, and other clinical supervisees, including documentation of supervision hours, competency development, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Monitors the collection and processing of urine and other specimens to test for the presence and use of controlled dangerous substances.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervision of subordinate staff in the treatment of their assigned patients and clients.
  • Plans and conducts periodic staff conferences to develop and maintain professional standards among counseling staff.
  • Directs the identification, collaboration, coordination, and integration of available community resources and services into the treatment program.
  • Prepares performance ratings for staff members and supervises the preparation of performance ratings for other personnel assigned to the program.
  • Provides professional input for the review and evaluation of other treatment and rehabilitation services offered by the BHWC.
  • Instructs new substance abuse counselors in departmental regulations and approved counseling procedures consistent with BHWC Policy Manual requirements.
  • Participates in diagnostic, case progress, and client evaluation conferences.
  • Supervises the preparation of technically sound and informative case reports and patient histories containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinate employees; effectively recommends hiring, promoting, and/or disciplining of employees.
  • Keeps current with literature and trends in the field of counseling with particular emphasis on drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates program activities for individuals with co-occurring substance abuse disorders.
  • Schedules and conducts regular meetings with Addiction Services staff; submits reports on program and related issues.
  • Develops and maintains peer review processes; identifies areas for quality improvement.
  • Acts as liaison to state and community agencies, programs, and committees.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) issued by the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Department of Law and Public Safety.
  • Certified Clinical Supervisor preferred
  • Master Degree in related field preferred

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience in counseling or social work involving responsibility for gathering and analyzing social or health information from clients, the determination of their needs, and the planning and carrying out of a treatment plan geared to the needs of individual clients; one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.

License:Valid New Jersey Driver's License required only if operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
