Job summary

MTA NYC Transit, located at 33-00 Northern Blvd., Long Island City, NY 11101, seeks a Superintendent, Maintenance (Paratransit) to lead Standards & Compliance for Paratransit vehicle safety and maintenance. The role oversees audits, inspections, and training to ensure compliance with NYSDMV Article 19-A and related contracts.

The successful candidate will manage the maintenance program for AAR vehicles, coordinate with contractors, and support vehicle systems, including AVLM/GPS and emissions

Responsibilities

POSITON SUMMARY:

The Standards and Compliance Unit is responsible for ensuring that all Paratransit revenue and non-revenue vehicles are safe and maintained in excellent condition, and that all Access-A-Ride (AAR) vehicles are in compliance with NYS Department of Motor Vehicle (NYSDMV) Article 19-A and the MTA New York City Transit carrier contracts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In Paratransit, the selected candidate will perform the following:

Conduct random audits of carriers and oversee contractor vehicles, facilities, and records to ensure fleet safety and compliance.

May be required to travel out of state as needed to perform quality ‑ control inspections at vehicle manufacturing plants for inspections, testing and approval of shipments of newly designed/built buses.

Inspect, test, and approve new buses at vendor manufacturing plants.

Selected candidates will be required to work with various contractors to support On-Board Vehicle Surveillance Camera Systems, AVLM/GPS Systems and Zero Emissions

Investigate customer complaints related to Access ‑ A ‑ Ride (AAR) vehicles.

Assist with research and development of vehicle equipment to enhance the AAR customer experience.

Provide carrier maintenance personnel with training on various vehicle equipment and systems to ensure vehicles are maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements.

Evaluation and determination of AAR vehicle service ready condition at expiration term of AAR carrier contracts.

Retirement and liquidation of AAR vehicles in accordance with MTA policy.

Evaluate and determine reliability of vehicle manufacturer’s warranty repairs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Baccalaureate from an accredited college in XXXXX , (Delete if not applicable:) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

6 years of professional experience.

2 years of Managerial/Supervisory Experience.

DESIRED SKILLS:

Strong knowledge of vehicular maintenance operations and preventative maintenance procedures

Mechanical experience ( i.e. repairing passenger automobiles, trucks, buses, and heavy equipment)

Knowledge of AAR Maintenance practices

Experience in personnel development, work prioritization

Must be able to make decisions rapidly and under pressure and effectively deal with availability of labor and equipment constraints

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PC skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Knowledge of light-duty revenue vehicles, new bus technologies, and the maintenance procedures/standards required to maintain them, including an understanding of specifications

Knowledge of vehicle systems and components

Knowledge of design, manufacturing processes, product testing and maintenance procedures

Final salary is determined experience, skillset, and alignment with compensation practices. The posted range reflects expected compensation and may be updated as market or business needs evolve.
