Smith Group of Americas is seeking two experienced Traveling Superintendents to support a growing portfolio of commercial construction projects throughout Texas. The Superintendent will be responsible for leading field operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within quality standards, and in accordance with company expectations.
This role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple stakeholders, and is comfortable traveling between project locations as business needs dictate.

Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Project Execution
- Lead all day-to-day field operations on assigned projects.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, inspections, manpower, equipment, and material deliveries.
- Maintain project schedules and ensure critical milestones are achieved.
- Conduct daily coordination meetings and manage site logistics.
- Identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or budget.
- Ensure project execution aligns with contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce a zero-incident safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and all company safety requirements.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and weekly toolbox talks.
- Investigate and document incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Hold subcontractors accountable for maintaining safe working conditions.
Schedule & Production Management
- Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules.
- Monitor progress against project milestones.
- Coordinate workforce planning and daily production activities.
- Identify schedule risks and develop recovery plans when necessary.
- Provide regular project updates to management.
Quality Control
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards and project specifications.
- Conduct routine field inspections and quality walks.
- Manage punch lists and corrective action items.
- Coordinate testing, inspections, and project closeout activities.
- Verify work is installed correctly before proceeding to subsequent phases.
Communication & Documentation
- Maintain accurate daily reports, photographs, manpower logs, and project records.
- Utilize Procore and other company systems for project documentation.
- Communicate project status, risks, and solutions to project leadership.
- Participate in owner, architect, subcontractor, and internal project meetings.
Client & Team Relationship Management
- Represent Smith Group professionally at all times.
- Build positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
- Mentor field staff and support development of foremen and junior field personnel.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and strong communication across project teams.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of experience as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects.
- Experience managing multiple subcontractors and field crews.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods.
- Proven experience managing project schedules and field operations.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- Proficiency with Procore and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Texas and stay overnight as required.
Preferred
- Retail, warehouse, distribution center, industrial, or large commercial construction experience.
- Experience working on fast-track schedules and occupied facilities.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Construction Management degree or equivalent field experience.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, and access elevated work areas.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel weekly and remain at project locations as needed.
