Job summary

Strategic Industry, Inc. is seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead daily field operations on commercial and federal projects in California.

You will ensure safe, timely, and efficient execution in line with contract requirements and schedules, coordinating with the Project Manager, QCM, SSHO, and subcontractors. Responsibilities include planning labor, equipment, materials, and logistics; maintaining productive job sites; and developing short-term look-ahead schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible commercial construction supervisory experience; federal construction experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, building codes.
  • EM 385-1-1 training and ASHE Health Care Construction Workshop certification preferred.
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications, schedules, RFIs.
  • Ability to organize labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors for efficient execution.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Overview:

Strategic Industry, Inc. is a general contractor specializing in commercial and federal construction. Position Summary:

The Superintendent leads daily field operations and is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient execution of construction activities in accordance with contract requirements, project schedules, and Company standards. The Superintendent partners with the Project Manager, Quality Control Manager (QCM), Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO), subcontractors, and field personnel to coordinate work, resolve field issues, maintain productivity, and deliver successful project outcomes. May also be assigned to serve as the Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) and/or Quality Control Manager (QCM), depending on project requirements, business needs, and individual qualifications.

Field Operations Management
  • Administer daily field operations in accordance with contract requirements, project schedules, and Company standards.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and site logistics to support efficient project execution.
  • Monitor field productivity, work progress, and project performance, implementing practical solutions to maintain schedule and productivity objectives.
  • Participate in project planning, Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings, coordination meetings, and look-ahead scheduling activities, as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain short-term look-ahead schedules to support efficient project execution.
  • Maintain an organized, professional, and productive jobsite.
Leadership & Coordination
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to Company field personnel.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities to ensure work is properly sequenced and executed.
  • Resolve field issues and conflicts to minimize impacts to safety, quality, schedule, and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with clients, inspectors, design professionals, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Communicate project progress, resource needs, field issues, and schedule impacts to project leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and the Company's Core Values through professional leadership and conduct.
Quality & Safety Support
  • Support implementation of the project Quality Control Program and Site Safety & Health Program.
  • Coordinate work to facilitate inspections, testing, and safety activities.
  • Promptly address quality deficiencies and unsafe conditions within the Superintendent's area of responsibility.
  • Work collaboratively with the QCM and SSHO to promote compliance with contract requirements, project specifications, Company policies, and applicable regulations.
  • May be assigned additional quality control and/or safety responsibilities, including serving as the QCM and/or SSHO when qualified and permitted by project requirements.
Documentation & Administration
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and project documentation.
  • Review and understand project documents, including drawings, specifications, approved submittals, permits, RFIs, and contract requirements to support proper field execution.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment utilization, inventory, and site logistics.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships & Authority
  • Reports administratively to the General Superintendent and partners with the Project Manager, Quality Control Manager (QCM) and Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to support project execution.
  • Provides operational leadership for daily field operations and coordinates the work of Company field personnel, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Administers daily field operations and coordinates construction activities in accordance with contract requirements, project schedules, and Company standards.
  • Has the authority to direct daily field operations and pause or stop work within the scope of field operations when necessary to address imminent safety concerns, quality issues, or contractual non-compliance, promptly communicating such actions to project leadership.
Project Staffing:

Depending on project size, contractual requirements, and individual qualifications, one individual may perform multiple project leadership roles when permitted by the contract and applicable regulations. Regardless of staffing configuration, the responsibilities of each assigned role shall be performed in accordance with applicable requirements and Company expectations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent education, certifications, and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible commercial construction supervisory experience; federal construction experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, building systems, and applicable construction codes and regulations.
  • EM 385-1-1 training and ASHE Health Care Construction Workshop certification are preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret contact documents, drawings, specifications approved submittals, schedules, and RFIs.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and field operations to support efficient project execution.
  • Ability to identify field issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement practical solutions to maintain safety, quality, schedule, and productivity objectives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate multiple assignments while managing competing deadlines, exercising sound judgment, and maintaining professionalism under pressure.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships while maintaining professional credibility.
  • Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Must be able to pass customer or government-required background and security screenings for assigned projects, as applicable.
Environmental Conditions:
  • Work is primarily outdoors at active construction sites with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, heat, cold, and weather conditions (approximately 75% of the time).
  • Work occasionally requires being in an office or trailer environment for documentation and meetings (approximately 25% of the time).
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, dust, or airborne particulates; use of respiratory protection may be required.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces or elevated areas if project needs arise.
  • Frequent fast-paced work with changing priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work to meet business needs or project deadlines.
  • Occasional travel and mobility between different work locations.
Physical Demands :
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Mobility within office and jobsite environments.
  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, climb stairs, and access active construction areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle and travel between work locations.
