Job summary

[Client] is seeking a Superintendent for life science – Bay Area projects. The role oversees on-site construction activities, leads subcontractor teams, and collaborates with Project Manager and leadership to deliver GMP manufacturing and related work.

You will drive site operations, safety programs, and coordination with owners, architects, and engineers, ensuring schedule adherence and quality. On-site daily, with competitive compensation and biennial bonus.

Qualifications

• 7 years as a commercial Superintendent in the Bay Area.
• Life science, lab, TI, or ground-up commercial experience strongly preferred.
• Track record of successful project completion and high client satisfaction.
• Strong scheduling skills in Microsoft Project; PlanGrid, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Able to read plans, manage subcontractors, and deliver on budget and schedule.
• Working knowledge of Cal-OSHA requirements and willingness to enforce site safety.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Valid California driver’s license with a clean DMV record.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all on-site construction activities and personnel from start to finish
• Build the overall project schedule and sequence of work; update it every two weeks, forecast issues, and put recovery plans in place when needed
• Coordinate and manage subcontractors, owners, architects, engineers, and municipal agencies
• Schedule inspections, materials, and subcontractors, and maintain quality control throughout the project
• Review budgets with the Project Manager to confirm inclusions and exclusions
• Set up the job site and job office (temporary power, toilets, plan table, conference space, etc.)
• Keep all field construction and contract documents current on site
• Lead job walks with clients and subcontractors and attend job-site meetings
• Promote a safe, clean job site: run weekly safety meetings, submit daily logs, and attend monthly safety meetings
• Drive punch list completion and efficient demobilization

Superintendent — Commercial General Contractor (Life Science)

Location: San Francisco Bay Area (job sites in South San Francisco, Hayward, and Palo Alto)

Type: Full-time, exempt | On-site daily (not remote)

Compensation: Competitive base salary twice-yearly bonus company truck

About the Company

Our client is a well-established, owner-led commercial general contractor that has served the Bay Area for over 20 years. Their focus is life science, along with ground-up commercial/industrial, tenant improvement, and seismic/structural work. They don’t self-perform; all trade work is subcontracted, so the Superintendent runs the site and leads the subcontractor teams.

The company is financially stable, consistently profitable, and growing deliberately. They’re hiring because substantial new projects are coming, including GMP manufacturing work. The team is small and close-knit, with direct access to ownership and no corporate red tape.

The Opportunity

Physical Requirements
