Job summary

Alliance Water Resources, headquartered in Missouri, seeks a Superintendent to support operations in the Hazelwood area. This supervisory role directs staff in water system operations, customer service, maintenance, and related activities under the Local Manager.

Schedule will vary between 12-hour and 8-hour shifts with some night requirements. Five years of maintenance/repair experience and three years of supervisory experience are required, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of water distribution systems.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Or any combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Direct staff to read, record, and calibrate pH meters, flow meters, level sensors, and chemical levels.
  • Oversee operation, maintenance and repair of site equipment incl. pumps, motors, instrumentation.
  • Prepare monthly schedule up to 3 months in advance for LM approval.
  • Coordinate with contractors and utilities; assist engineers as required.
  • On-site project management for construction and maintenance; respond to inquiries and improve operations.
  • Ensure safety standards and maintain equipment in good condition.

Description

Alliance Water Resources is a growing water and wastewater contract operations company, seeking a Superintendent to support operations in the Hazelwood, MO area. This supervisory, administrative, and technical role is responsible for directing staff engaged in water system operations, customer service, maintenance, and related activities. The position works under the general supervision of the Local Manager.

Schedule:Will be varied between 12 hour and 8 hours with some nightshift requirements based on operational needs

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises, directs, evaluates, and trains staff to effectively and efficiently read, record, and calibrate pH meters, flow meters, level sensors and chemical levels.
  • Supervises, directs, assists, and performs the operation, maintenance and repair of all equipment on site including pumps, motors, instrumentation, basins, and other flow components (piping, fittings, electronic valves, etc.).
  • Prepares and maintains the monthly schedule 3 months in advance for LM approval.
  • Provides assistance to contractors and local utilities as needed; performs plan reviews and coordinates with consulting engineers as required.
  • Provides on-site project management for construction and maintenance which may include scheduling shut-downs, tie-ins, installing equipment, and conducting testing programs; assists in responding to client, customer, or agency complaints or inquiries; recommends improvements to eliminate problems.
  • Performs inspections on plant operations and activities including equipment, maintenance, and safety related issues; recommends replacements and specifications for new equipment; orders materials and equipment within appropriate authority.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of district budget per the specifications of the manager.
  • Assists in personnel actions including the hiring process and employee evaluations; responds to complaints and grievances; takes disciplinary action; coordinates the completion of time sheets and other payroll data.
  • Communicates with client, staff, customers, contractors/developers, and employees regarding operation updates and general issues.
  • Investigates and takes appropriate action in response to complaints.
  • Participates in related professional association activities; stays knowledgeable of new developments in materials, equipment and processes to ensure effective and efficient operation of the systems.
  • Assists in public relations events and plant tours; maintains positive relationships with co-workers, clients, customers, vendors, and the general public.
  • Reviews and maintains inventory of materials according to set procedures; authorizes the purchasing of materials within authority limits.
  • Assures proper safety standards and precautions are followed and that all safety equipment is available and in good working condition according to company policy and equipment manual.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records to meet federal, state, local, and company requirements.
  • Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
Requirements
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of water distribution, water/wastewater systems
  • Three years of supervisory experience
  • Or any combination of education and experience
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license

Preferred: Wastewater Treatment Operator A Certificate

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of proper and effective practices, methods, and procedures related to water distribution system maintenance and construction.
  • Knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations governing water systems. Knowledge of basic principles of mechanical and hydraulic theory.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of motorized equipment and hand/power tools.
  • Knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and evaluate the work of staff.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, clients, and vendors.
  • Ability to resolve problems in stressful conditions using sound judgment.
  • Ability to operate computers and related programs.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply laboratory and statistical data.
  • Ability to be on-call after hours and weekends.
  • Ability on a daily basis to:
  • Work in all weather conditions and walk across rough terrain
  • Lift, move, or manipulate equipment up to 100 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces. Bend, stoop, and twist as necessary
  • Climb stairs and vertical ladders.
