Description
Alliance Water Resources is a growing water and wastewater contract operations company seeking an Accounting Manager position in the Columbia, MO area.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the organization’s accounting department, which includes all financial accounting functions, including such areas as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
- Prepares and issues parent and/or subsidiary company’s monthly financial statements. Also includes computing various monthly accruals, preparing/processing monthly journal entries and applying analytical review methods to various general ledger accounts.
- Prepares and issues client monthly financial statements from information provided from employees and/or clients. This includes computing monthly accruals, data entry of cash receipts/disbursements and preparing/processing all journal entries.
- Requires preparing and issuing special management reports using spreadsheet software.
- Prepares and issues annual IRS Form 1099’s for applicable clients.
- Maintains the company’s fixed asset system and records asset additions and deletions on the depreciation schedule. Also prepares monthly bank reconciliations on the company’s corporate bank accounts.
- Assists in scheduling annual financial statement audits for the company and applicable clients as required. Prepares various audit schedules/documents and answers inquiries by auditors.
- Reviews and analyzes payroll including all payroll changes, i.e., all earnings and deductions after staff has prepared payroll.
- Oversees/prepares the payroll file upload(s) into AWR’s accounting software for payroll related entries.
- Monitors payroll tax payment deadlines and prepares applicable payment requests and forms to ensure timely and accurate payments. Also prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual federal and state payroll tax returns.
- Oversees/prepares and reviews W-2s in a timely manner to all company employees.
- Assists the company’s Profit Sharing/401(k) Plan administrator in the administration of the plan. Prepares bi-weekly employee/employer 401(k) contributions file, bi-weekly 401(k) employee loan repayment file and annual profit-sharing contributions file and submits approved data files to the plan sponsor.
- Reviews semi-annual and annual non-discrimination testing data files and submits approved data files to the plan sponsor.
- Supervises and instructs staff to complete work assignments and reviews work for accuracy as required.
- Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting
- Five years’ experience working as an accountant.
- Minimum of five years managing a team and working with location managers

- Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work under pressure, problem solve and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain moderately complex records and ensure confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, managers, employees, and the general public.
- Knowledge of MS Office and other applicable business software.
- Posses a valid state driver’s license and maintain in good standing.
- A person working in this job will need, on a daily basis, to:
- Operate general office equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, fax machine, copier, and scanner.
