Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to provide field leadership for commercial mechanical construction projects. This individual will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day field operations, supervising crews and subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, enforcing safety and quality standards, and serving as the primary field representative for the company.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical construction leader with strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and construction coordination. This role requires someone who can lead confidently in the field, communicate effectively with project stakeholders, and consistently drive projects toward successful completion.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations Leadership

• Lead and manage daily field operations for commercial mechanical construction projects.
• Supervise mechanical crews, subcontractors, foremen, and trade partners.
• Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, deliveries, and site logistics.
• Review project plans, specifications, schedules, and installation requirements.
• Ensure work is completed according to approved drawings, specifications, and project milestones.
• Coordinate mechanical work with general contractors, owners, engineers, electricians, and other trades.
• Identify potential conflicts, constructability concerns, and scheduling issues before they impact the project.
• Conduct regular jobsite meetings and communicate priorities clearly to field personnel.

Project Schedule and Execution

• Develop and maintain short-term and look-ahead schedules.
• Track project progress and provide regular updates to project managers and company leadership.
• Ensure work is properly sequenced to support overall project completion.
• Monitor productivity and adjust manpower or resources as necessary.
• Help manage punch lists, inspections, testing, startup, commissioning, and closeout activities.
• Support project managers with change-order documentation, field conditions, and schedule impacts.

Mechanical Construction Oversight

• Oversee installation of HVAC systems, piping, plumbing, sheet metal, equipment, controls, and related mechanical systems.
• Interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, equipment schedules, and manufacturer requirements.
• Confirm that installations meet applicable codes, project specifications, and quality expectations.
• Coordinate equipment setting, rigging, startup, testing, balancing, and commissioning activities.
• Verify that materials and installations are correct before work progresses.
• Resolve field issues in partnership with project management, engineering, and the customer.

Safety and Quality

• Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.
• Enforce company safety policies and project-specific requirements.
• Conduct or participate in jobsite safety meetings, inspections, and toolbox talks.
• Identify and correct unsafe conditions promptly.
• Ensure work is performed in accordance with OSHA requirements and applicable building and mechanical codes.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure deficiencies are addressed quickly.
• Support quality-control procedures, inspections, and documentation.

Team Leadership and Customer Relations

• Provide direction, coaching, and mentorship to foremen, journeymen, apprentices, and subcontractors.
• Build strong working relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, and trade partners.
• Represent the company professionally on the jobsite.
• Communicate project expectations, challenges, and progress to internal and external stakeholders.
• Help develop future field leaders and promote teamwork across the organization.

Qualifications

• 10 or more years of experience in commercial mechanical construction.
• Significant experience as a Mechanical Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, General Superintendent, or Mechanical Foreman.
• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, piping, sheet metal, mechanical equipment, and building systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Experience coordinating multiple trades and subcontractors on complex commercial projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction scheduling, sequencing, inspections, and project closeout.
• Working knowledge of OSHA standards and mechanical construction codes.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage changing priorities and maintain composure in a fast-paced field environment.
• Proficiency with construction technology, scheduling tools, email, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to travel locally throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area and work extended hours when project demands require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale commercial, healthcare, institutional, industrial, data center, or mission-critical projects.
• Mechanical or HVAC certification, license, or formal technical training.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, BIM coordination, or similar construction platforms.
• Experience with commissioning, testing and balancing, controls, and startup activities.
• Strong record of completing projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
