Job description

SuperDebate is building the first national network of competitive debate clubs for adults. We’ve already run events in Chicago, Portland, Bali, and New York — and we’re expanding to 20+ cities in 2026.

Austin is next. We’re looking for a City Ambassador to launch and grow SuperDebate Austin — someone who can build a thriving local debate community from scratch and become the face of the movement in one of America’s most dynamic cities.

This isn’t a volunteer gig. It’s a ground-floor opportunity to build something real, with compensation, autonomy, and a path to significant upside as the network scales.

What You’ll Do

• Launch and run monthly SuperDebate events in Austin. We provide the full playbook: format, topics, templates, feedback forms. You bring the energy, the room, and the people.
• Build a local community of debaters. Recruit members who miss intellectual combat — former high school and college debaters, lawyers, founders, policy wonks, anyone who loves a good argument.
• Secure venues. Coworking spaces, event venues, bars with back rooms, university spaces. Anywhere people can gather and think out loud.
• Grow the brand locally. Social media, partnerships with local organizations, campus outreach, word of mouth. You’ll be the hub for debate culture in Austin.
• Feed into the national network. Your best debaters compete in city championships and eventually national tournaments. You’re building a pipeline.

Who You Are

• Former competitive debater (high school, college, or adult leagues) — you understand the activity and why it matters
• A natural community builder — you know how to get 30 people in a room and make them want to come back
• Based in Austin or the greater Austin metro area
• Self-starter who doesn’t need hand-holding — you’re already organizing things, whether debate-related or not
• Passionate about bringing civil discourse back to the real world
• Slightly competitive. Maybe too competitive. (That’s a feature, not a bug.)

Why Austin

Austin is one of the fastest-growing cities in America, packed with tech founders, university students, policy thinkers, and people who moved there specifically because they value independent thought. The University of Texas has a storied debate tradition. The city’s culture rewards people who can think on their feet and defend their ideas. If SuperDebate doesn’t thrive in Austin, it doesn’t thrive anywhere. We think it’ll be one of our strongest markets.

Compensation

• $100 per event, guaranteed. Everything is turnkey — we provide the playbook, you run the event.
• Revenue share on ticket sales. At venues that allow ticketing (coworking spaces, event venues), you get a cut. Tickets start around $10 and scale as events grow.
• Monthly stipends as your club scales. Consistent activity and growing membership unlocks recurring compensation.
• Equity track for committed leaders. Early ambassadors who help drive the network forward get founding status and a path to equity participation.
• Sponsorship revenue. As events grow, local sponsors come in. Ambassadors who bring in sponsors share in that revenue.

The Format

Each SuperDebate event is a 2.5–3 hour structured debate session. Attendees can debate solo or in teams. The audience submits and votes on topics — everything from political theory to philosophy to tech ethics to culture. Debaters switch sides, rotate opponents, and get scored by their peers. It’s fast, competitive, social, and addictive. No prior debate experience required for attendees.

The Bigger Picture

Debate basically disappears after college, and that’s insane. Millions of adults loved it, miss it, and have nowhere to go. Meanwhile, public discourse is broken — social media turned arguments into performance art and everyone forgot how to actually engage with ideas they disagree with.

SuperDebate is building the modern agora. A real-world network where adults can sharpen their thinking, test their ideas, and compete through structured argument. Local clubs feed into city championships, which feed into national and international tournaments. We’re not just running events — we’re rebuilding the infrastructure of civil discourse.
