Job summary

South Dakota Department of Transportation in Custer is seeking an Intern - Transportation Engineering Intern for the Summer session (May–August). Two positions are available to assist on state highway projects through design, construction or maintenance tasks.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time or part-time and have completed at least one year of study. Preference may be given to South Dakota residents and students enrolled at South Dakota institutions.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• Preference may be given to applicants who are South Dakota residents or students of South Dakota institutions.

Responsibilities

• Interns will be involved in engineering activities in support of design, construction or maintenance of state highway projects.
• Duties may include participating on survey crew, materials testing, project inspection, data collection and verification, or other engineering related activities.
• Duties are primarily outdoors and are physical in nature.
