Job summary

State of South Dakota invites motivated students to join the Summer Transportation/Construction Engineering Intern program in Brookings. Interns will support design, construction, and maintenance efforts on state highway projects, gaining hands-on experience in survey work, materials testing, inspections, and data collection.

The role emphasizes outdoor, physical work and is open to part-time or full-time students with at least one year completed in their program.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time of application.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their program.
• Preference may be given to juniors/seniors, South Dakota residents, and students of SD institutions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, construction, or maintenance of state highway projects.
• Participate on survey crew, materials testing, project inspection, data collection and verification.
• Engage in outdoor, physical tasks related to civil engineering activities.
