Job summary

WMATA's Infrastructure Department is seeking undergraduate and graduate student interns for Summer 2026 to gain hands-on experience in engineering, construction, maintenance, data analysis, or planning while helping to move thousands of people daily through the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Interns will rotate through multiple disciplines, tour facilities, meet senior leaders, and join a cohort of peers to develop real-world skills through office and field assignments, including possible

Qualifications

• Introductory, preparatory, and training opportunity for college and graduate students.
• Assignments may include office and job site work, with possible remote sites.
• Fields include Engineering, Maintenance, Construction, Contract Management, Asset Management, Project Controls, Project Management, Project Planning, and Data Analysis.

Responsibilities

• Compiles, reviews and analyzes data; inputs data for reports.
• Researches data for management and operations reports; uses data to complete assignments.
• Produces reports, presentations and data visuals tailored to the assigned department.
• Reviews reports to identify problems and suggests solutions.
• Participates in training sessions and attends meetings to gain exposure to transit functions.
• Participates in and/or leads departmental meetings or working sessions when assigned.
