Job summary

State of Missouri is seeking a Materials Intern to sample and test general construction materials for highway projects in the St. Louis District Office at Chesterfield, MO.

Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision and include coordinating with contractors on trial mixes. Applicants must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program with at least 2.0 GPA and 30 completed credits.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program.
• For engineering candidates, ABET-accredited program.
• Overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.

Responsibilities

• Samples and tests general construction materials such as steel, pipe, paint, asphalt, and cement to determine conformity with specifications.
• Tests aggregate production for quality and gradation specification compliance at quarries supplying materials for department projects; approves/rejects material.
• Prepares samples for bituminous trial mixes; coordinates with contractor on trial mix information.
• May perform duties of inspector in charge at plants producing bituminous mixtures to determine conformity and approve/reject material.
• May perform inspections of prestressed or precast concrete and special sampling and testing of materials required on federal aid projects.
• Maintains records of test results, product records, and reports of materials approved for each project or maintenance use.
• Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

All you need for success:

• Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program; for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
• Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.
