About the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.
With approximately 1.17 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. The precinct’s population is roughly 33% African American, 38% Latino, 21% Anglo, 6% Asian, and 2% other or multiple races. It stretches from downtown Houston to Brazoria County, including landmarks like the Harris County Courthouse, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, BBVA Compass Stadium, NRG Park, and the Texas Medical Center. It also hosts several higher education institutions such as Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston, and the University of St. Thomas. The precinct manages over 21 parks, 10 community centers, hike-and-bike trails, maintenance centers, and area offices, providing various services to residents.

What you will do at Precinct One:
The Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis is seeking a Temporary Part-time Summer Lifeguard for our Programs Division. This role involves ensuring pool safety, enforcing policies, and interacting with students. Adherence to safety standards and protocols is critical.
The Summer Lifeguard position is a temporary part-time role from June to August 2025.

What you will bring to Precinct One:
Education: Currently attending high school or possessing a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: At least three years of related experience or previous youth work in swimming or recreation.
