Job summary

The ACLU - National Office in New York City or Washington D.C. invites law students to apply for a Summer Legal Intern role within the Abortion Criminal Defense Initiative. The internship offers meaningful legal research and writing opportunities to support advocacy related to abortion rights, with weekly team meetings and coalition engagement.

Interns must be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school, have completed at least 1L, and be based in the U.S. for the duration.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in ABA accredited law school and completed at least 1L.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent oral communication abilities.
• Organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Team player with ability to handle feedback.
• Demonstrated commitment to criminal defense, public interest law, civil rights and social justice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and writing to support advocacy.
• Track cases and issues of interest to the ACDI.
• Assist with intakes for individuals seeking criminal defense representation.
