Job summary

The ACLU-DC seeks second-year law students for full-summer internships in the summer of 2027. Interns will engage in legal research, drafting memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, and may interview potential clients to develop impact cases.

Opportunities include hearings, depositions, and court proceedings as docket allows, with mentorship and feedback on all work. Financial stipends may be available to assist with room, board, and other expenses, but compensation is not

Qualifications

Currently a second-year law student.
Strong work ethic including dependability and diligence.
Able to take ownership over projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Receptive to feedback and eager to learn from it.
Excellent legal research skills with judgment to select relevant authorities.
Strong legal writing skills that clearly synthesize authorities.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research for current and potential cases and draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
Interview potential clients and help investigate facts of potential cases.
Participate in legal strategy sessions, court proceedings, depositions, and client meetings when docket allows.
Receive mentorship and timely feedback on all work product.
Assistance with covering room, board and related expenses may be provided as stipends.
