Job summary

Providence Public Schools is seeking a Summer Learning School – Secondary School Nurse Teacher to support Central High School during the 2026 program. The nurse will provide health care services, maintain health records, conduct screenings, and ensure student welfare during program days.

Hours are 8:30 AM–12:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, July 20–30, 2026. Requires RN license, degree in school nursing, and a School Nurse Teacher Certificate; ESL preferred and CPR/First Aid certifications are

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in school nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Current license to practice as a registered nurse.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience as a registered nurse.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
• ESL preferred.
• RIDE School Nurse Teacher Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Provide health care services for students in the school setting, including care for complex needs.
• Maintain student health records according to state regulations.
• Perform health screenings and ensure student welfare.
• Deal with student medical needs and provide treatment as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information.
• Must commit to working all program days.

Nurse Teacher Summer Learning Program 2026 (up to 1 position)

Prep Dates [NOT PD DAYS]: TBD

Program Dates: July 20, 2026 - July 30, 2026

Hours: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM

$40.00 per hour (Contingent upon funding)

Provide health care services for students in the school setting, maintain student health records according to state regulations, perform health screenings, and maintain the health and welfare of the students.

Education, Training, and Experience

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in school nursing from an accredited college or university.
• Current license to practice as a registered nurse.
• Successful experience as a registered nurse for a minimum of 3 years
• CPR/AED/First Aid Certified

RIDE Requirements

• School Nurse Teacher Certificate

ESL Preferred

Minimum Qualifications Standards

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited teacher education program
• Prior experience in a nursing position, especially in an urban setting (preferred)
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively with others
• Ability to work under pressure

PK-12 Nurse Must Have

• CPR Certification
• First Aid Certification
• Valid Rhode Island driver’s license
• Current Healthcare Provider Insurance required
