Job summary

Green Chimneys is seeking a Summer Junior Camp Counselor for the Village of Brewster, NY. The role emphasizes creating a fun, supportive outdoor environment where campers can grow, learn, and engage with new ideas while staying safe and healthy.

You will build relationships with campers, promote positive group interaction, and assist the Head Counselor in planning weekly activities. Must be 16+, energetic, and willing to learn from diverse cultures during a six-week summer period including

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Experience working with children, teens, or adults in similar settings.
• Energy and enthusiasm for long days outdoors.
• Ability to work with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Available to work six weeks during the summer plus training.
• Must pass staff training week and counselor-specific training.

Responsibilities

• Provide a fun, supportive and safe atmosphere where campers can grow.
• Develop relationships with each camper within the group and promote positive interaction.
• Plan and schedule weekly activities with other staff under the Head Counselor.
• Follow established procedures for campers' health and safety.
• Work collaboratively with the team to accomplish camp goals.

SummerJunior Camp Counselor

The Junior Camp Counselor will provide a fun, supportive and warmatmosphere where campers can improve their individual potential, gainunderstanding of others, experience new ideas and develop an appreciation forthe environment. This position must be a good role model for campers, developrelationships with each camper within the group, promote positive groupinteraction, follow established procedures for maintaining campers health andsafety, work together with other staff to plan and schedule weekly activities,and other related duties as directed by the Head Counselor or Camp Supervisor.

Must be at least 16 years of age. Energy and enthusiasm forlong days, a desire to work with children outdoors, prior experience workingwith children, teens or adults in similar setting, outdoor living skills and/orenvironmental background, ability to accept guidance and supervision, and awillingness to work with and learn from people from different cultures andbackgrounds are all essential skills for this position.

Must be available to work a minimum of six weeks during the summer(June 28 th – August 27 th ) in addition to attending stafftraining week (June 21 st -26 th ) and a Junior Counselorspecific training in May (dates TBD).

Salary:Starting rate of $65/day
This is a temporary not benefit eligible position.
