Job summary

National Life Group in Montpelier, VT is seeking two summer interns for its Internal Audit team. You will gain a foundational understanding of audit processes, risk assessment, controls testing, and how the business operates to strengthen processes and decision-making.

This onsite internship runs 10 weeks with paid compensation, formal orientation, networking opportunities, a cross-department project, and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Analytical Thinking & Risk Awareness: Support audit planning, risk assessment, and testing activities by reviewing business processes and financial or operational information, identifying key risks and controls, examining supporting documentation, documenting procedures and results accurately, and escalating potential inconsistencies or issues.
• Communication & Collaboration: Collaborate with Internal Audit team members and business partners to gather information, understand processes, ask thoughtful questions, communicate status updates, and build effective working relationships across the organization.
• Professionalism & Attention to Detail: Prepare clear, organized audit summaries that are accurate, complete, timely, and handled in accordance with confidentiality and professional standards.
• Curiosity, Adaptability & Accountability: Plan and prioritize assigned work, meet established deadlines, follow through on commitments, adjust effectively as priorities change, and build knowledge of audit concepts and NLG business processes through training, feedback, and hands-on experience.
