Job summary

National Life Group offers a summer internship with the Internal Audit team in Montpelier, VT. You will gain hands‑on experience in audit planning, risk assessment, and testing, while learning how the business operates and how controls improve processes.

The internship runs for 10 weeks with onsite work four days per week (Mon–Thu core days). You will join a diverse group of accounting, audit, IT and life insurance professionals, receiving mentorship and opportunities to contribute to

Responsibilities

• Analytical Thinking & Risk Awareness: Support audit planning, risk assessment, and testing activities by reviewing business processes and financial or operational information, identifying key risks and controls, examining supporting documentation, documenting procedures and results accurately, and escalating potential inconsistencies or issues.
• Communication & Collaboration: Collaborate with Internal Audit team members and business partners to gather information, understand processes, ask thoughtful questions, communicate status updates, and build effective working relationships across the organization.
• Professionalism & Attention to Detail: Prepare clear, organized audit summaries that are accurate, complete, timely, and handled in accordance with confidentiality and professional standards.
• Curiosity, Adaptability & Accountability: Plan and prioritize assigned work, meet established deadlines, follow through on commitments, adjust effectively as priorities change, and build knowledge of audit concepts and NLG business processes through training, feedback, and hands‑on experience.
