Job summary

State of South Dakota is seeking an Intern – DCI Sex Offender Registry in Pierre for the Summer session (May–August). The role supports the Sex Offender Registry staff, handling mail, verifications, and registration maintenance, with emphasis on organization and clear written and oral communication.

A background check and drug screening are required before employment. Applicants must be enrolled as a part-time or full-time student for the upcoming semester (or the immediately preceding).

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions.
• Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.

Responsibilities

• The successful applicant will assist Sex Offender Registry Staff with necessary section duties, receiving and sending daily mail, 2nd party registration verifications, and maintaining registration when needed.
• The position involves daily tasks and other projects as assigned to support the Sex Offender Registry program.
