Job summary

Moderna is offering a summer internship in Norwood, MA (June 7, 2027 – August 20, 2026). The role involves joining the CMC Development organization to design manufacturing processes for mRNA medicines and participate in scale-up, tech transfer, and analytical characterization.

You will work onsite full-time, contribute to formulation and process control strategies, and develop skills in high-throughput experiments and collaboration with internal teams.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Biostatistics, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Strong fundamental scientific and engineering skills for the evaluation of experimental data.
• Laboratory skills applicable to bioprocess development and analytical methods.
• At Moderna, immigration sponsorship is not available; candidates must have US work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of experts to learn technology quickly.
• Use lab, technical and communication skills to generate results and document in reports.
• Perform process scale-up and support technology transfer at internal and external sites.
• Participate in planning, design, and analysis of experiments and risk assessments.
• Optimize formulation and processing conditions for stability of mRNA products.
• Review literature and establish collaborations with internal teams.
• Create scaled-down models and high-throughput setups for unit operations.
• Characterize mRNA and lipid nanoparticles with the analytical team.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings in cross-functional meetings.
