General Motors offers a summer internship in automotive digital sculpting, where you will learn to translate sketches into digital models and work with GM Design, Sculpting and Engineering teams.

You will present work to leadership and contribute to ongoing sculpting projects, while building a specialized portfolio for industry-ready skills in Alias, Maya, Rhino, or NX.

Qualifications

Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in listed design fields.
Applicants must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029.
Creative ability shown via a 3D portfolio and basic sculpting principles.

Responsibilities

Gain exposure to creative careers at General Motors and learn about aesthetic judgments, technology, production methods, and materials used in automotive digital sculpting.
Collaborate with GM Design, Sculpting, and Engineering teams to develop digital models of future automotive themes in a studio environment.
Interpret sketches and develop digital models using established and emerging digital-sculpting best practices and techniques.
Present finished models to Design and Sculpting leadership at midterm and final show events.
Support general sculpting assignments within the studio environment.
Collaborate on innovation challenges and interact with industry leaders.

Requirements

Pursuit of a bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Animation, Game Design, Transportation Design, Fine Arts, Sculpture, or Ceramics
Must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029
Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months
Must submit a portfolio to be considered
GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; applicants must not need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
Creative ability demonstrated through a supporting 3D portfolio
Basic understanding of design and sculpting principles, including proportion, line, and surface
3D computer modeling or animation skills
Experience with Alias, Maya, Rhino/Grasshopper, or Unigraphics/NX software

Core Competencies

Demonstrates strong creative ability in digital sculpting and 3D modeling, with proficiency in industry-standard software such as Alias and Maya. Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams to develop innovative automotive designs and presents concepts to leadership.
