General Motors offers a summer internship in automotive digital sculpting, where you will learn to translate sketches into digital models and work with GM Design, Sculpting and Engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to creative careers at General Motors and learn about aesthetic judgments, technology, production methods, and materials used in automotive digital sculpting.
  • Collaborate with GM Design, Sculpting, and Engineering teams to develop digital models of future automotive themes in a studio environment.
  • Interpret sketches and develop digital models using established and emerging digital-sculpting best practices and techniques.
  • Present finished models to Design and Sculpting leadership at midterm and final show events.
  • Support general sculpting assignments within the studio environment.
  • Collaborate on innovation challenges and interact with industry leaders.

Job description

  • Collaborate with GM Design, Sculpting, and Engineering teams to develop digital models of future automotive themes in a studio environment
  • Interpret sketches and develop digital models using established and emerging digital-sculpting best practices and techniques
  • Present finished models to Design and Sculpting leadership at midterm and final show events
  • Support general sculpting assignments within the studio environment
  • Collaborate on innovation challenges
  • Interact with industry leaders
  • Attend cross-functional networking events
  • Participate in community service activities
Requirements
  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Animation, Game Design, Transportation Design, Fine Arts, Sculpture, or Ceramics
  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and May 2029
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week during the summer months
  • Must submit a portfolio to be considered
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; applicants must not need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1 support
  • Creative ability demonstrated through a supporting 3D portfolio
  • Basic understanding of design and sculpting principles, including proportion, line, and surface
  • 3D computer modeling or animation skills
  • Experience with Alias, Maya, Rhino/Grasshopper, or Unigraphics/NX software
