Job summary

Koch Fertilizer invites applications for a Summer Instrumentation & Electrical Technician Intern to join our Maintenance team in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for a 12‑week program running from late May to mid‑August 2027. You will shadow experienced instrumentation technicians and gain hands-on experience supporting equipment reliability, maintenance, and plant operations.

You’ll assist with installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of process instrumentation and control

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program in Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, Automation & Robotics, HVAC, Electrician, or similar program.
• Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.
• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Shadow experienced instrumentation technicians and gain hands-on experience supporting equipment reliability, maintenance, and plant operations.
• Assist with the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of process instrumentation, analyzers, and control systems.
• Learn the permitting process and gain exposure to the day-to-day responsibilities of instrumentation technicians in an industrial environment.
• Develop the ability to interpret technical documents, including loop drawings, instrument documentation, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Support commissioning, startup, testing, and reliability initiatives while building practical skills in instrumentation and process control systems.
• Partner with technicians and engineers on projects and troubleshooting efforts that help maintain safe and reliable plant operations.
