Job summary

Koch Fertilizer is seeking a 2027 Summer Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician Intern to join our Maintenance team in Fort Dodge, Iowa. This 12-week program runs from late May to mid-August 2027, offering hands-on experience in process instrumentation, control systems, and reliability initiatives.

You will shadow experienced technicians, learn installation and calibration, interpret loop drawings and P&IDs, and collaborate with engineers on projects to maintain safe plant operations.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program in Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, Automation & Robotics, HVAC, Electrician, or similar program.
  • Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without visa sponsorship.
  • Willing and able to meet all physical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Shadow experienced instrumentation technicians and gain hands-on experience supporting equipment reliability, maintenance, and plant operations.
  • Assist with installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of process instrumentation, analyzers, and control systems.
  • Learn the permitting process and exposure to day-to-day responsibilities of instrumentation technicians in an industrial environment.
  • Develop the ability to interpret technical documents, including loop drawings, instrument documentation, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Support commissioning, startup, testing, and reliability initiatives while building practical skills in instrumentation and process control systems.
  • Partner with technicians and engineers on projects and troubleshooting efforts that help maintain safe and reliable plant operations.

Koch Fertilizer is looking for a 2027 Summer Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician Intern to join our Maintenance team in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The internship opportunity will be a 12-week program running from late May to mid-August 2027.

What You Will Do
  • Shadow experienced instrumentation technicians and gain hands‑on experience supporting equipment reliability, maintenance, and plant operations.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
  • Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
  • Confined space entry may be required.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program in Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, Automation & Robotics, HVAC, Electrician, or similar program
  • Eligible for full-time employment before or by May 2028
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
  • Willing and able to meet all physical requirements
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, engines, rotating equipment, or maintenance systems
  • Demonstrated involvement in engineering design teams, student organizations, or hands‑on mechanical projects
