Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites you to join its Design Thinking Group as a summer intern. You will work with multi-disciplinary teams to explore human-centered design, systems thinking, and front-end innovation across planning, technology, product design, and UX.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include pursuing a degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Interaction Design, User Experience Design, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, Game Development, or related field with a 3.0 GPA.
  • Ability to work independently and with teams of collaborators.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Interim Secret security clearance by start date.

Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop concepts for sponsors.
  • Assist in conducting mixed methods user research and advocate for the voice of the user.
  • Analyze and synthesize data to uncover insights for innovation.
  • Facilitate ideation sessions with users to develop solutions for various challenges.
  • Develop experiments and prototypes to test with users.
