The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Human Factors Engineer to join the Health and Human-Machine Systems Group. You will help design and operationalize autonomous solutions across health, cybersecurity, and mission-focused domains, collaborating with engineers, data scientists, and government sponsors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Factors Engineering, Human Systems Integration, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience with requirements analysis and development, experimental design, human performance measurement, and system evaluation.
  • Experience with UCD, UX, and UI design.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally; ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance and ultimately Secret; US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and technical experts to conduct research and systems development, supporting cognitive engineering and human-machine partnerships.
  • Analyze, assess, and make recommendations regarding human system design and development, including requirements analysis and workload modeling.
  • Utilize UCD, UX, and UI design skills to rapidly develop prototypes.
  • Collaborate with operators, stakeholders, and other experts to capture human requirements and testing results for complex systems.
  • Support development, documentation, and presentation of systems engineering artifacts related to human factors and usability.
