Job summary

Walbec Group is seeking a Superintendent Summer 2027 Internship to support daily heavy civil operations, learn safety protocols, and assist with scheduling, cost control, and coordination on Milwaukee–area projects. You will shadow the Superintendent and work with management to understand plans, specs, and standard practices for site development, earthwork, and utilities.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of earthwork, underground utilities, grading, and site construction operations.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently; strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily heavy civil construction operations, including earthwork, utilities, grading, and site development.
• Learn and promote proper safety procedures, and help monitor compliance with OSHA and company standards.
• Shadow the Superintendent in working with the Operations Manager and HR on employee relations matters.
• Support equipment coordination and pre-job planning to ensure resources are allocated to the job site.
• Help verify foreman-reported installed quantities against hours from timecards.
• Observe and assist in troubleshooting field construction issues in collaboration with Project Management to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Develop a working understanding of plans, specifications, and standard practices for heavy civil work.
• Build professional relationships with Owners, General Contractors, and Subcontractors.
• Assist with training and onboarding of field crew personnel under supervision.
• Support Project Managers with scheduling, cost control, and change order documentation.
