Job summary

Walbec Group is offering a Summer 2027 internship in Madison, WI. Assist with heavy civil construction operations, earthwork, utilities, grading, and site development while shadowing the Superintendent and coordinating with the Operations Manager.

You will support pre-job planning, scheduling, cost control, and change order documentation as part of a hands-on learning experience. The role emphasizes safety, compliance with OSHA and company standards, and developing professional relationships

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
• Basic knowledge of earthwork, utilities, grading, and site construction operations.
• Self-starter with ability to work independently.
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily heavy civil construction operations, including earthwork, utilities, grading and site development.
• Shadow the Superintendent and collaborate with the Operations Manager and HR on employee relations matters.
• Support equipment coordination and pre-job planning for appropriate resource allocation.
• Verify foreman-reported installed quantities against hours from timecards.
• Observe and assist in troubleshooting field construction issues to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Develop understanding of plans, specifications, and standard practices for heavy civil work.
