Job Function

Carry out responsibilities which ensure that the Center meets Head Start Performance Standards regarding nutrition, CACFP guidelines, and the New Jersey Licensing Regulations.

Essential Functions

• Prepare and serve meals that conform to menus provided by the Nutrition Coordinator.
• Maintain and ensure proper food storage and handling practices.
• Plan and initiate at least one learning activity per week with the children, appropriately documented and coordinated with the educational objectives of the week. Learning activities are to be sent to Central Office weekly.
• Involve parents in planning and implementation of the Nutrition Program at the local level, including the development of a local nutrition committee at the center and semi-annual nutrition education programs with parents.
• Participate in planning sessions during weekly staff meetings.
• Ensure cleanliness of the food service area, including the kitchen, dining area, and food storage areas.
• Maintain accurate monthly inventory of equipment and food to inform purchasing decisions.
• Coordinate a volunteer program at the center to assist with nutrition activities.
• Submit meal inventories reflecting the number and type of meals served by the fifth of the following month.
• Work hours will depend on the center's location and hours of operation.
