Job summary

BNSF Railway invites applications for a Summer Intern on the Engineering Roadway Equipment Team in Brainerd, MN. You will collaborate with experienced engineers on projects that improve machinery performance, while gaining hands-on field experience and exposure to railway maintenance technology.

The program aims to funnel talented students into the Management Trainee Program. This full-time internship involves on-call and shift work with travel and relocation requirements during the summer.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
• Minimum GPA of 2.75.
• Preferred internships or leadership roles are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Assist Planned Maintenance Coordinator Equipment Planning with new equipment shipping.
• Assist with equipment retirements and ensure reporting and retirement criteria are met.
• Participate in Brainerd Roadway Equipment Shop scheduling and planning meetings.
• Vetting Regional System Gang turnovers and assignment changes; ensure accurate reporting and information flow.
• Update SAP to reflect equipment assignments and locations in collaboration with mentors.
• Coordinate with customers to assign ramp and rider cars using the EDO system.
• Spend substantial time in the field inspecting equipment and identifying replacement opportunities.
• Work in a safety-sensitive environment with varying weather and noisy machinery.

Education

Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering

GPA 2.75+
