Job summary

BNSF Railway in Fort Worth, TX is seeking a dedicated Engineering (Roadway Equipment) Summer Intern for 2027. The role offers hands-on field work in equipment management, planning, and maintenance, with exposure to SAP and rail-car tracking systems.

Applicants should be pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA, be able to relocate for the summer and travel up to 75%, and work 40 hours per week in a 24/7 environment including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
• Capable of relocation for the summer and travel up to 75% of the time.
• Able to work in a 24/7 environment including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist Planning Maintenance Coordinator Equipment Planning with new equipment shipping and verify shipping data.
• Assist with equipment retirements and ensure reporting meets requirements before retirement.
• Participate in Brainerd Roadway Equipment Shop scheduling and planning meetings to improve processes.
• Vet Regional System Gang turnovers and assignment changes with accurate reporting.
• Update SAP to reflect equipment assignments and locations with mentorship.
• Work with customers to assign ramp and rider cars to correct pool using BNSF EDO system.
• Spend extensive time in the field inspecting equipment to identify replacement or rebuild opportunities.
