Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks Seasonal Engineering Interns for District 7 to gain hands-on experience in design, measurement, and documentation under supervision. The program runs from May 16 through August 15, 2027.

You must be a high school graduate or GED holder and currently enrolled in an engineering program; travel within the district is expected and ANSI safety footwear is required. This opportunity provides on-the-job training in civil engineering practices.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or a GED.
• Current enrollment in a college engineering program.
• Understanding of design plans/blueprint reading.
• Education in math to the level of trigonometry.
• Knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Provides accurate designs, measurements, computations, and documentation.
• Keeps the Resident Engineer/Technician informed of any problems encountered or deviations.
• Ensures work performed complies with specifications.
• Follows departmental safety rules and treats all employees fairly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
