Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a Seasonal Engineering Intern for the 2027 summer program, located in Springfield, IL. The role focuses on traffic engineering, roadway operations, and maintenance planning, with hands-on exposure to design and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an engineering program at a college.
• Willing to work a hybrid schedule with in-office days as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with roadway designations and traffic engineering requests.
• Support roadside maintenance programs and vegetation management.
• Summarize winter maintenance reports using MS Office and asset management tools.
• Assist with operation and maintenance of StarComm21 wireless system.
• Follow departmental safety rules and perform duties equitably.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
