Job summary

Peraton seeks Summer 2027 Data Science Interns to support the Internal Research & Development (IRAD) program at our Strategic Innovation Centers in Herndon, VA or Blacksburg, VA. Interns will join Agile teams to clean data, develop feature sets, build models, and deploy them into production environments.

Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a bachelor’s program in data science or related fields and have foundational experience with Python, R, Spark, SQL, and ML frameworks like TensorFlow or

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship.
• HS Diploma and progress toward bachelor’s degree.
• Progress toward a bachelor’s degree in data science, data analytics, CS, or related field.
• Foundational experience with Python, R, Spark, and SQL.
• Experience with data cleansing and feature development for models.
• Hands-on coursework or internships with ML frameworks like TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, NumPy, PyTorch, Matplotlib, SHAP, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; quick to learn new tech.
• Self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, team player; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Cleanse data, develop feature sets, and build models for business value.
• Develop code in an Agile environment to support data science initiatives.
• Deploy models into production and monitor quality over time.
• Collaborate with staff across projects and domains to identify requirements.
• Communicate insights effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
