Job summary

Peraton is seeking Summer 2027 Software Engineer Interns to support our Internal Research & Development (IRAD) program in Herndon, VA or Blacksburg, VA. You will contribute to advanced research projects across communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, public safety, and health while collaborating with full‑time staff in an Agile environment.

Ideal candidates are technical students entering junior or senior year with foundational OO programming, exposure to Java, Python, C++, and Bash, and a

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
• Completed progress toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field.
• Foundational experience in an object‑oriented language (preferably Java) and exposure to software engineering processes.
• Familiarity with Java, Python, C++, Bash, etc.
• Hands‑on programming through coursework or internships.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Able to learn new technologies quickly; detail‑oriented and team‑oriented.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support requirements/story development for IRAD projects.
• Assist in software architecture and design activities.
• Contribute to software development and unit/component testing.
