Job summary

Live Oak Bank is seeking an onsite cybersecurity internship for the 10-week Summer Internship program (May 17 - July 23, 2027) at our headquarters in Wilmington, NC. You will monitor security alerts, assist with vulnerability scans, and help review access permissions while contributing to security awareness efforts.

The role emphasizes AI-assisted research, hands-on learning, and presenting findings to the Information Security team.

Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information systems, computer science, or related field.
Demonstrates interest in security concepts through coursework, projects, or clubs.
Hands-on AI experience and ability to verify outputs are valued.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Willingness to learn in a fast-moving environment and speak up when something looks off.

Responsibilities

Support day-to-day monitoring of security alerts and document findings.
Assist with vulnerability scanning and track remediation progress with teammates.
Review access permissions to ensure least privilege across bank systems.
Contribute to security awareness materials for employees to spot phishing.
Use AI agents to speed research and writing, then report on value added.
Work on a summer project scoped with your manager and present results.
Observe incident response exercises, risk reviews, and vendor security assessments.
