Job summary

Live Oak Bank is seeking a Software Engineering Intern for a 10‑week Summer Internship program at our headquarters in Wilmington, NC. You will help build and improve digital products and platforms used by customers, employees, and banking operations.

The role offers hands‑on experience, mentorship, and exposure to modern software engineering practices in a collaborative environment. Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in CS/SE/IT with experience in at least one modern language is preferred.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• Experience with at least one modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, C#, or Go.
• Basic understanding of software development principles, data structures, and object‑oriented programming.
• Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and services.
• Collaborate with engineers, business analysts, designers, and stakeholders to deliver new features.
• Learn and use AI‑assisted development tools to support design, coding, testing, and documentation.
• Participate in code reviews, team discussions, and agile ceremonies.
• Research emerging technologies and help identify innovative solutions to challenges.
• Support cloud‑based applications and services, with opportunities to work in AWS environments.
