Job summary

Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) is seeking a Civil Engineer Intern to join our Great Falls, Montana office for Summer 2027. You will work alongside experienced engineers to apply classroom knowledge on real consulting projects.

The internship blends field and office work, including site visits, data collection, surveying, and the use of CAD and other engineering software. Travel to project sites throughout Montana and the surrounding Rocky Mountain region may be required.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related program at an accredited college or university.
• Completed coursework in civil engineering fundamentals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
• Previous internship, field, or engineering‑related experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the design and development of civil engineering projects.
• Supporting preparation of plans, specifications, technical reports, and permit applications.
• Performing field inspections, site assessments, and construction observations.
• Collecting and documenting field data and measurements.
• Assisting with surveying, site layout, and other field activities.
• Performing engineering calculations and data analysis.
• Assisting with preparation of construction cost estimates and quantity takeoffs.
• Using engineering software and computer-aided design (CAD) programs.
• Reviewing plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Participating in project meetings and working with project managers and other technical staff.
• Traveling to project sites throughout Montana and the surrounding Rocky Mountain region, as needed.
