Job summary

Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) is seeking a Hydrogeology Intern for Summer 2027 at our headquarters in Butte, Montana. You’ll work with engineers and professionals, applying classroom knowledge to real consulting projects and gaining hands-on field experience.

The internship involves field and office work across the Rocky Mountain region, with travel as needed. You’ll assist with water sampling, well design oversight, data collection and analysis, and preparation of technical reports,

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a hydrogeology, environmental, geoscience, geological engineering or related degree program.
• Some coursework, internship, or other experience related to hydrogeology, geological, environmental engineering or geoscience.
• Self-motivated, dependable, and energetic; willingness to learn.

Are you an environmental, geology, or hydrogeology student looking for more than just a summer job? Water & Environmental Technologies (WET) is seeking a motivated Hydrogeology Intern to join our team for Summer 2027 at our headquarters in Butte, Montana.

This internship gives you the opportunity to put classroom knowledge into practice while working alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals. You’ll contribute to real consulting projects, gain hands-on field experience, and develop practical skills that will help prepare you for a career in engineering consulting.

What You'll Do

As a Hydrogeology Intern, you’ll support a variety of consulting projects throughout the Rocky Mountain region. The position will include a combination of field and office work, providing opportunities to apply engineering principles, learn from experienced professionals, and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of a consulting engineer.

Some overnight travel will likely be required.

Depending on project needs and your experience level, you will have opportunities to learn and assist with:

• Water sampling and analysis
• Monitoring well design and installation
• Drilling and well construction oversight
• Environmental data collection, management, and analysis
• Contaminant plume and groundwater flow mapping
• Contaminated site investigation and environmental cleanup
• Permitting and regulatory compliance
• Hydrogeologic studies for groundwater-sourced water supply projects
• Field investigations and site documentation
• Preparation of technical reports and project deliverables

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

• Be currently enrolled in a hydrogeology,environmental, geoscience, geological engineering,or related degree program
• Have some coursework, internship, or other experience related to hydrogeology, geological, environmental engineering or geoscience
• Be self-motivated, dependable, and energetic
• Have a willingness to learn and take on new challenges
• Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Have strong communication and organizational skills
• Be comfortable working in the field and outdoors in a variety of conditions
• Be willing and able to travel, including occasional overnight travel
• Have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites
