Summer Camp Head Lifeguard

Concord Recreation is looking for a reliable and skilled Camp Head Lifeguard to lead lifeguards and manage pool operations at Emerson Pool. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Program Manager and Camp Director, you will ensure pool safety, maintain cleanliness, and oversee daily operations, including chemical monitoring, skimming, vacuuming, and pump maintenance.

Pay range: $20.00 - $30.00/hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, consisting of up to 37.5 hours per week.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday, 8:30AM-4:00PM

June 16 - August 15, 2025

Training Dates:

June 5 & 6, 2025 @5:30pm – 8:30pm,
June 7, 2025 @8:30am – 4:00pm,
June 18, 2025 @4:15pm – 5:15pm,
July 2, 2025 @4:15pm-5:15pm

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Program Manager and Camp Director, manages lifeguards and pool operations at Emerson pool. Responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the pool, as well as supervising and upholding the professionalism of the lifeguards. Maintains daily pool operations including monitoring chemicals, skimming, vacuuming, filter cleanliness, and pump performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.

  • Required to attend all pre-camp training dates.
  • Maintains the safety and cleanliness of the pool. Monitors and assists swimmers and enforces pool regulations.
  • Provides basic first aid. Performs rescue if appropriate, calls for help, provides emergency care, interviews witnesses, and files reports.
  • Supervises all Swim Specialists performing lifeguarding duties to ensure all work is performed in compliance with established policies and procedures and applicable safety regulations.
  • Responsible for daily opening of the pool, tests pool for proper chlorine and pH levels, and sets up equipment.
  • Responsible for managing specific administrative tasks (recording and completing swim documentation for campers) including but not limited to pool chemistry in accordance with DPH standards.
  • Required to maintain and monitor daily pool chemical log.
  • Performs end of day responsibilities in relation to pool maintenance.
  • Responsible for running lifeguard in-services three times throughout the summer.
  • Performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation dictates.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Act as a social role model for all campers and staff.
  • Consistently communicate with counselors, directors, specialists, and nurse regarding any camper issues.
  • Enforce rules, regulations, and policies to assure safety of all individuals in the pool.
  • Maintain responsibility for all park and recreation property including proper accounting and storage of all camp and pool equipment.
  • Weekend work may be required upon request by the Aquatics Program Manager.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School education and one to three years lifeguarding and/or pool supervision experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED. WSI certification preferred.
  • CPO certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license, with a safe driving record and ability to provide personal vehicle for occasional transportation during work hours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of multi-pool aquatic facility, procedures and equipment. Thorough working knowledge of ability to perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid. Ability to swim.
  • Excellent customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the public, including children and young adults, in a courteous and tactful manner and to fairly and tactfully enforce facility rules and regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Moderate physical effort is generally required which involves frequent lifting of between 30 and 60 pounds. Additional physical effort is required in emergency situations to perform rescue/lifesaving activities. Regularly required to walk, swim, stand, crouch, reach, crawl, climb, talk, sit, watch and hear for extended periods of time. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects or equipment. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges.

Work is performed in varied environments including those of a large multi-pool aquatic facility, an outdoor camp pool, and a pond waterfront; includes exposure to various weather conditions and pool chemicals. Noise is moderate to loud at times.
