The Behavioral Support Specialist works with branch staff and program participants to create a positive and productive environment where all participants learn, grow, and thrive. Responsibilities include implementing behavior plans, utilizing principles rooted in applied behavior analysis to decrease problem behaviors, promoting positive replacement behaviors, and maintaining accurate documentation for monitoring progress. The focus is on a person-centered, hands-on approach to ensure individual success, with a proactive mindset emphasizing growth and character development.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in de-escalating daily behavioral incidents
  • Train and support counselors in minimizing problem behaviors and working with campers with emotional and behavioral challenges
  • Create a safe space for campers to discuss concerns and receive support
  • Develop behavior strategies with BCBA support, fostering a positive environment aligned with core values
  • Maintain documentation of incidents, referrals, and office visits
  • Support camp-wide positive behavior systems
  • Collaborate with parents and staff to manage behaviors effectively
  • Participate in camp activities and staff meetings
  • Attend camper field trips

What You'll Need

  • 1-3 years of related experience, including working with children with emotional and/or behavioral concerns; camp experience preferred
  • Understanding of positive behavior approaches
  • Ability to work outdoors with children
  • Experience with children on the autism spectrum (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields or working towards one
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification (preferred)

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

Requires standing, sitting, walking, communication, and hearing. May involve lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposure to bacteria and viruses. Accommodations available for disabilities.
