Job summary

YMCA of Greater Birmingham seeks an Activities Director at Camp Cosby in Alpine, AL. This part-time summer position leads staff, ensures camper safety and engagement, and coordinates daily activity schedules in a vibrant camp setting.

The ideal candidate has prior youth leadership experience, comfortable mentoring staff, and a strong commitment to YMCA principles. CPR/First Aid certifications and 21+ age are required to maintain safety and leadership standards.

Qualifications

• 2 years of prior experience with children in camping or related youth work.
• Prior experience as a leader or supervisor.
• Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Physical ability to cover entire camp grounds and participate in all camp activities.
• Know Camp Cosby and YMCA policies and assure staff adhere to these policies.
• Ability to positively work with staff from different backgrounds.
• Train and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise sessions during staff training.
• Support staff to inspire great leadership with campers.
• Ensure safety, health, welfare and happiness of staff and campers.
• Lead or attend staff meetings.
• Facilitate daily meetings with activities staff.
• Assist with check in and check out day.
• Create and manage staff activity schedules and camper schedules.
• Schedule photographer and upload photos to eCamp daily.
• Ensure ACA, Health Department and YMCA policies are followed.
• Maintain headcounts and never leave a group unsupervised.
• Adhere to camp schedules and activities.
• Support camp leaders and work with Cabin Life Director and Program Operations Director to ensure a safe, excellent program.
• Document and communicate concerns to the Program Operations Director.
• Ensure camp is on time for meetings, activities, meals.
• Create an environment that cares for staff and campers socially, emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
• Write and facilitate staff evaluations with leadership.
