Job summary

YMCA Camp Cosby in Alpine, AL is seeking a part-time LIT/CIT Director to assist with the care of summer campers and staff ages 15-16, ensuring their safety, well-being, happiness, growth and development. The role includes mentoring staff, leading activities, coordinating meals, and upholding camp policies and ACA/health standards.

You will live out YMCA values, train and support staff, schedule activities, supervise during activity periods, document incidents, and work closely with the Program

Qualifications

• Two years of prior experience with youth ages 15-16 in camping or related work.
• Experience as a peer leader or supervisor.
• Ability to cover the entire campgrounds and participate in all activities.
• Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Commitment to YMCA mission and Christian character.
• Ability to work with staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Train and mentor staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned sessions during staff training.
• Support all staff at camp and inspire them to be great leaders with campers.
• Be responsible for safety, health, welfare and happiness of each staff member and campers in the LIT/CIT program.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Schedule LIT/CIT activities and leadership activities with curriculum guidance.
• Ensure ACA, Health Department and YMCA standards are followed.
• Supervise and support during activity periods and coordinate with the Activities Director.
• Ensure equipment is cared for and reported if replacement is needed.
• Never leave a group unsupervised.
• Adhere to schedules and planned activities of the camp.
• Support camp leaders and work with Program Coordinator and Activities Director to ensure a safe, excellent program.
• Be available to assist counselors with behavior management and record all matters for proper documentation.
• Notify the Program Coordinator of incidents and discipline concerns.
• Participate with campers at Morning Watch and include a devotion and pledge.
• Ensure campers are on time for meetings, activities, meals.
• Greet parents during check-in/out and ensure cabins have planned activities.
• Manage lost and found items.
• Create a caring environment for staff and campers socially, emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
• Write and facilitate evaluations of LIT/CIT campers with the assistance of the Program Coordinator and Activities Director.
