Essentia Health's St Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN invites student nurse interns to spend Summer 2027 gaining hands-on experience under supervision across units including PCU/ICU, ED, and Medical/Surgical.

You will support nursing teams with patient care, follow Joint Commission protocols, and help create a safe, healing environment for patients and families while developing critical clinical skills. Shifts include days, nights, and weekends.

Job Description

Spend Summer 2027 at Essentia Health - St Joseph's Medical Center as a Student Nurse Intern in Brainerd, MN!

Education Qualifications: As a Student Nurse Intern, you will work under direct supervision, providing essential support in both routine and technical aspects of nursing care for patients of all ages.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care activities while adhering to best practices and protocols.
• Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure compliance with the Joint Commission and other relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
• Help maintain a safe and healing environment for patients and families.

Units Available for Student Nurse Interns

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU/ICU)
• Float Team
• Emergency Department (ED)
• Medical/Surgical Medical Unit
• Procedural Units: OR/PACU/Cath Lab/Endoscopy
• Oncology
• Grace Unit (Behavioral Health)
• Family Birthplace

*Unit availability may vary.

Internship Requirements

• Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program (BSN or ADN)
• Completion of junior year coursework of a Bachelor’s Nursing Program OR two semesters of an Associates Nursing Program by summer 2027.
• Enrollment and active participation in an approved internship co-operative course at an accredited nursing school in the state of employment for the summer semester
• Must be able to commit to 32-40 hours/week (up to 400 hours for the entire summer).
• Students with full/part-time summer class loads will have adjusted hour requirements and must be able to commit to 32 hours every two weeks.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 1 month of hire. This certification must not expire during the internship.
