Summer 2027 Silanes Production & Energy Systems Engineer Intern

As a Silanes Production & Energy Systems Engineer Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting the operation, optimization, and sustainability of a large-scale chemical manufacturing facility. Working alongside production engineers, operations personnel, and technical experts, you'll evaluate process performance, analyze equipment and production data, and help implement solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Throughout the internship, you'll contribute to projects focused on process yields, energy systems, equipment reliability, and environmental stewardship while developing a strong foundation in production engineering. You'll gain exposure to daily manufacturing operations, learn how engineering decisions impact plant performance, and build the technical and leadership skills needed for a successful engineering career. This role provides an opportunity to work on meaningful projects with measurable business impact while developing practical experience in chemical process manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Support Sustainability and Energy Management Initiatives—Evaluate site sustainability projects and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and environmental performance. Analyze performance data from site utility and energy systems to support optimization efforts. Develop procedures, monitoring tools, and visual management systems that improve operational awareness and support sustainability objectives. Assist in tracking and reporting key sustainability and energy performance metrics.
  • Improve Equipment Reliability and Asset Performance—Support reliability-focused projects aimed at improving equipment performance, reducing operational risk, and increasing system availability. Evaluate critical production and utility equipment to identify opportunities for improved reliability and maintainability. Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to collect data, assess performance trends, and develop improvement recommendations. Participate in troubleshooting efforts and root cause investigations related to equipment performance.
  • Optimize Production Processes and Product Yields—Analyze production data to identify opportunities to improve process yields, reduce variability, and enhance overall manufacturing performance. Support process optimization initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, cost reduction, and production reliability. Conduct data-driven investigations and provide recommendations that improve process consistency and operational outcomes. Quantify project results through technical and financial analysis.
  • Develop Production Engineering Skills—Work directly with production engineers to gain practical experience supporting operating units and manufacturing processes. Participate in daily production activities, operational reviews, and process troubleshooting. Develop an understanding of process safety, production planning, equipment operation, and continuous improvement principles. Complete training and qualification activities designed to build competency in production engineering fundamentals.
  • Lead and Present Engineering Projects—Support project planning, execution, and progress tracking for assigned engineering initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions and measure project success. Present project findings, recommendations, and business impact to engineering and site leadership at the conclusion of the internship.
Required Qualifications
  • Currently a Sophomore, Junior, at the time of application pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Strong interest in chemical manufacturing, production engineering, process optimization, and sustainability.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret technical data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework in chemical process design, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, process control, or reaction engineering.
  • Experience analyzing data and developing technical recommendations.
  • Familiarity with process improvement, root cause analysis, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Interest in energy systems, sustainability initiatives, or manufacturing operations.
  • Previous internship, laboratory, research, or project experience in an engineering setting.
Program Qualifications
  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship. The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.
What We Offer

Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00. The base salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography.
