The Momentive Summer 2027 Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern program provides hands-on rotation across Environmental Compliance, Air Quality Management, Process Safety Management, and Occupational Health & Safety within a large manufacturing setting.

Summer 2027 Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern

As an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of EHS while supporting a world-class manufacturing operation. This rotational internship is designed to provide broad exposure to Environmental Compliance, Air Quality Management, Process Safety Management (PSM), and Occupational Health & Safety. Throughout the summer, you'll spend approximately three weeks working within each discipline, partnering with experienced EHS professionals to support regulatory compliance, continuous improvement initiatives, risk reduction efforts, and sustainability objectives. You'll participate in real-world projects that directly impact employee safety, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. This internship is ideal for students interested in environmental compliance, industrial safety, process safety, engineering, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing operations.

Water & Waste Compliance

Working alongside Environmental Engineers, you will support programs related to water quality, wastewater management, hazardous waste handling, and environmental regulatory compliance.

You may:

  • Support compliance activities associated with the site's NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) permit requirements.
  • Assist with environmental compliance activities related to RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) regulations.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze environmental monitoring data to support regulatory reporting and permit compliance.
  • Participate in inspections of wastewater treatment systems, stormwater controls, hazardous waste storage areas, and environmental infrastructure.
  • Assist with identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance and compliance processes.
  • Lead or support improvement projects focused on waste reduction, environmental sustainability, or process optimization.
  • Develop recommendations that enhance environmental stewardship while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Air Quality & Air Permitting

Working with the Air Compliance Engineer, you'll gain exposure to air emissions management and permit compliance within a large manufacturing facility.

You may:

  • Support compliance activities associated with the site's Title V Air Permit and RCRA Kiln Incinerator Permit requirements.
  • Assist with emissions tracking, environmental data collection, and air compliance documentation.
  • Participate in environmental inspections and permit compliance reviews.
  • Help maintain records required for state and federal environmental reporting.
  • Analyze process and emissions data to identify opportunities for environmental improvements.
  • Support projects focused on improving emissions monitoring, compliance processes, and environmental performance.
  • Gain exposure to industrial air permitting and regulatory requirements affecting manufacturing operations.
Process Safety Management (PSM)

Working with the Process Safety Engineer, you'll help support programs designed to manage risk and ensure safe operation of manufacturing processes involving hazardous materials.

You may:

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and other risk assessment activities.
  • Support investigations related to process safety incidents, near misses, and operational events.
  • Assist with the review and improvement of PSM documentation and procedures.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) activities and process safety reviews.
  • Support efforts to improve process safety compliance and operational risk management.
  • Assist with identifying and tracking corrective actions resulting from safety studies and investigations.
  • Gain practical experience applying process safety principles within a chemical manufacturing environment.
Occupational Health & Safety

Working with Health & Safety professionals, you'll support programs focused on employee safety, injury prevention, and regulatory compliance.

You may:

  • Support compliance initiatives related to OSHA regulations, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) requirements, and Responsible Care® standards.
  • Participate in workplace inspections, safety observations, and hazard identification activities.
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis efforts.
  • Support projects focused on improving workplace safety performance and risk reduction.
  • Help develop safety communications, training materials, and awareness campaigns.
  • Participate in employee engagement activities that promote a strong safety culture.
  • Assist with tracking safety metrics and identifying trends that support proactive risk management.
Continuous Improvement & Project Management

Across all EHS disciplines, you'll have opportunities to lead or support meaningful improvement projects.

You may:

  • Manage 1-2 projects within each EHS rotation area throughout the summer.
  • Analyze data and identify opportunities to improve compliance, safety, efficiency, and environmental performance.
  • Develop recommendations for process improvements based on observations and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers, operations personnel, maintenance teams, and EHS professionals.
  • Create presentations, reports, and project summaries to communicate results and recommendations.
  • Present project findings and improvement opportunities to site leadership and key stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Junior or Senior standing preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in team environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to work safely within an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Coursework related to environmental regulations, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering, or process safety.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Responsible Care®, or Process Safety Management concepts.
  • Experience with technical reports, data analysis, or environmental and safety projects.
  • Previous internship, co-op, laboratory, research, or manufacturing experience.
  • Interest in regulatory compliance, sustainability, risk management, environmental stewardship, or industrial safety.
Program Minimum Qualifications
  • The candidate must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of application and for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.
  • The candidate is expected to be available 40 hours a week for a period of 10-12 weeks between the months of May and August.
What We Offer

Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00

The base salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography.
